Chickens: K -2nd Grade
The K-2 have been learning about animals that come from eggs, one in particular, the chicken. Shauna Breckenridge brought an Old English miniature chicken, a Bantam chicken that lays smaller eggs, a Rhode Island Red chicken, baby chickens, eggs, and a rooster. Each student was able to touch the baby chicks and see how their adult wings were developing.
Students were able to pet the rooster, who had very soft feathers. They thought that was interesting. Shauna also showed us how roosters like to be rocked to calm down and they are very relaxed! Students learned if a hen’s comb was very white, that means they’ve laid a lot of eggs. Very interesting!
It was very hand-on and the class had a lot of fun! We appreciate your chicken expertise, Shauna! Thanks for coming
